While the word “squib” doesn’t sound very threatening, it’s one of the more dangerous malfunctions in shooting. The squib load itself doesn’t usually do much of anything – it’s what can happen after that makes things hairy. Ever seen pictures of guns blown to pieces? Many of those are the result of someone firing another shot after a “squib.”
Here’s a video we put together for Range365 that shows exactly what a squib load is, how to recognize one, and what to do about it.
Your video and comments about a squib shot were spot on! Being an avid reloader the first time this happened to me I was totally confused as to what was wrong. Luckily my mentor and fellow reloader was in the next firing lane and hollered for me to put my weapon down. He then proceeded to explain why and what happened and how to clear the round. This is why I now carry 3 wooden dowels in different dimensions in my range bag. Safety first and safety always. Great video!!!
Good plan on the dowels! Sooner or later you or someone nearby will get one.
Your absolutely right. I’ve loaned out my dowries on several occasions.
Good video.
Only suggestion next time is cut the music completely when you are trying to demo something thats mostly notable by a difference in sound…
