SOG's new SwitchPlier 2.0 does it all - with one hand.

SOG’s new SwitchPlier 2.0 does it all – with one hand.

I got the full tour of new SOG tools and gear at an after hours event at SHOT Show, and there were a number of “I want that” products without a doubt. However, two items in particular jumped out at me as extra-special.

First, the Switchplier 2.0 multi-tool provides new levels of overall handiness, and not just because it offers true one-handed operation. On that topic, it works like a switchblade knife, although it’s a lot less scary. Just press a button on the grip and the pliers and opposing handle pop open. Pull it out of your pocket or off the belt (it’s got a belt clip attached) and press that button. It springs open, and you’re ready to go. The pliers are sturdy but have narrow tips, so they double as a pair of needle-nose pliers in a pinch. There’s a wire cutting blade in there too. Additional tools are contained in the plier grips that will get you through most basic tasks. Flathead and Phillips screwdrivers, an awl, file, smooth edge and serrated blade, bottle opener and can opener for starters. There’s even a ruler engraved on the handle.

SOG's new BladeLight doubles as a 45-lumen flashlight even when the blade is closed.

The BladeLight Mini Folder offers 45 lumens of total light. The neat thing about this one is that there are two LED lights on each side of the blade, so light is balanced across your work without a blade shadow. Better yet, the lights operate with the 3-inch blade closed, so the BladeLight doubles as a pocket flashlight.
