Here’s some interesting new ammo from Federal Premium. It’s designed specifically for all those short-barrel revolvers like Smith & Wesson 642s and similar, Ruger LCRs and others like them. The bullet is an HST design, so it’s designed to penetrate and expand at rated velocity, but it looks more like a traditional “oil-drum” wadcutter style. That’s because it’s seated very deep in the cartridge case. Why? The idea is to eliminate air space in there which should make velocity more consistent. The cartridge shown on the left in my embarrassingly blurry photo (sorry!) is a fully loaded one – that’s how they look out of the box.
We’ll get our hands on this soon and shoot some jello to see how they work. Stay tuned.
Got something to say?
