It’s a replica of a Space Marine Bolter from Warhammer 40,000 (a sci fi miniatures wargame,) this one looks to be a Phobos Pattern example. They fire mass-reactive .75 caliber explosive bolts (kicked out of the barrel with a standard charge, a miniature rocket kicks in, and they explode after penetrating the target,) so yes, rather awesome.
