I just got back home from six non-stop days spent with 65,000 of my closest friends. The annual Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) show is the place where over 1,800 manufacturers show all their latest gear to media and gun retailers. If it’s not there, you don’t need it. Range days at the beginning offer hands-on opportunities to shoot new guns and ammo while four straight days of inside convention hall activity allow plenty of time to get more info, assuming you don’t want to see everything. That’s because if you planned to stop at every single booth, you would only have 65 seconds for each. Yes, the SHOT Show is that big.
Here are a few photos to highlight some of the new gear and show happenings.

An amazingly light .338 Lapua compatible suppressor from Griffin Armament. The Silencer Shop guys turned me on to this one. Anxious to try it when it comes out in a month or so.

The new Crimson Trace LinQ laser and light system for AK rifles also works on the Springfield Armory SOCOM CBQ model.

New .38 Special short barrel ammo from Federal Premium. The case on the left is actually a loaded round – the bullet is contained within the case to minimize air space for more consistent velocity.
-
-
This nifty magazine loader from Caldwell loads just about any magazine. No more sore thumbs, just drop a bullet into the device and squeeze the handle.
-
-
The show was full of vehicles – everything from this Daniel Defense NASCAR model to military trucks and offroad stuff.
-
-
Handy new lights from Princeton Tec.
-
-
A very nice new concealed carry gun from Beretta with major design input from pistol guru Ernie Langdon – the new PX4 Compact Carry.

So apparently this exceptionally handy knife sharpening system from Spyderco has been on the market for about a million years, but it took me until SHOT Show 2017 to find it.

-
On the way to SHOT Show Media Day at the Range, our bus took a wrong turn and managed to get wedged between two berms of sand out in the middle of the desert. Fortunately, a pickup truck rescue a few of us…

A neat new product find, dB Foam fills pistol suppressors to reduce sound. It also cleans, protects, and helps prevent carbon build-up.
-
-
Safariland offers a new line of body armor. Mix and match the internal soft-armor with the requirements you need to the carrier. It’s like Lego’s that stop bullets.
-

Beretta continues to expand its product offerings with a new line of both passive and electronic hearing protection. These in-ear Off Shot models have Bluetooth connectivity.

The morning stampede from the connected host Venetian and Palazzo hotels to the exhibition halls.

There’s always clever marketing from Cerakote, at least in the convention center men’s rooms.

Al of this emergency med gear fits into the belt or MOLLE mount pack at the bottom offered by Blue Force Gear. You can order the pack empty of pre-stocked. Great to have at the range or in the car.

-
-
Here’s a random SHOT Show celebrity spotting at the Brownells booth – Lou Ferrigno from the Incredible Hulk.

New expanding subsonic 300 Blackout ammunition from Sig Sauer is on the way. Note the interesting bullet profile – that’s to ensure positive feeding in regular AR-15 .223/5.56mm magazines.

A new Beretta 92 .22LR pistol, complete with threaded barrel and a “faux” suppressor to tide you over until the tax stamp arrives for a real one.

-
-
A new 3X flip-down magnifier from Bushnell Optics.
-
-
Brigand Arms showed off this new carbon fiber “yarn” handguard for AR-15 rifles. After weaving, it’s cured into a rock-hard state. The design allows plenty of barrel air flow and fast cooling. The adapter below allows use with an AR-10 rifle.

More handy tools from Real Avid. This one makes AR cleaning a breeze.

The Polycase ammo team had a ton of new stuff to offer, like this practice ammo. You can safely shoot steel from near contact distance as the bullets disintegrate on contact with a hard surface.
Got something to say?
