Blackhawk! Leather Speed Classic Snubnose Revolver Holster

Blackhawk! Leather Speed Classic Snubnose Revolver Holster

We recently reviewed the Blackhawk! Leather Speed Classic Holster for a Ruger LCR revolver and found it to be an excellent concealed carry solution for several reasons.

It’s discreet. The design causes the revolver to ride high relative to the belt line. This makes for easier concealment and reduces the need for a knee-length photographers vest.

It’s fast. The gun is held in place by shape and side pressure. To draw, simply rock the revolver forward. An elastic strap connected the two leather halves of the Speed Classic. The forward rock allows the gun to release above and out the top front side of the holster.

Retention is great. The leather fit, with additional pressure applied by the elastic strap makes your snubbie revolver stay where it’s supposed to.

It’s comfortable. The outside the waistband design and high ride keep the gun out of the way in sitting and standing positions.

Fast, secure, and discreet. This one is a great solution for snubnose revolver users.

Buyers Guide: Galco King Tuk Inside the Waistband (IWB) Concealed Carry Holster

My Gun Culture Shooting Buyers Guide

If you’re one to appreciate quality of construction and attention to detail in your gear, then you’ll love the Galco King Tuk IWB Concealed Carry Holster.

Galco King Tuk IWB HolsterThere’s a lot of noise about CrossBreed Holsters, and they make a fine product as well – we have two at last count – but quite frankly, the Galco King Tuk is a better implementation of the design many believe was created by Tucker Gunleather years ago.

We noticed the different in leather quality, quality of leather cuts, and quality of kydex cuts. It’s just a more finished product. We’ve also found it to withstand the hot and sweaty environment of the deep south exceptionally well.

One more thing. The Galco King Tuk comes standard with a combat cut, meaning the back panel is cut to allow the user to get a full and proper grip on the gun while it is still full holstered. That’s extra on competing models.

Highly recommended.

Holster Review: Blackhawk Leather Dual Magazine Pouch / Carrier

We’ve gotten pretty attached to this particular piece of gear.  Or maybe it’s the other way around…

Blackhawk Leather Dual Magazine Pouch

Blackhawk Leather Dual Magazine Pouch

The standout feature of the Blackhawk Leather Dual Magazine Pouch is convenience. As you can see from the photo, there are numerous ways to attach this magazine carrier to your body.

The back flap is closed at the top by two sturdy snaps – allowing you to simply slide the back panel behind your belt, starting from the bottom, and fasten the two snaps above. It comes on and off easily. This is especially handy if you live or work in an environment where your gun and magazines have to be removed and remounted throughout the day.

The dual magazine pouch also features cuts if you prefer to mount the rig for a more permanent mount. Cuts are aligned side to side and top to bottom so you can mount this magazine carrier with magazines oriented vertically or horizontally.

Two screws allow precise adjustment of tension to hold the magazines as tight, or as loose, as you prefer. The Blackhawk Leather Dual Magazine Pouch is available in black or brown leather.

One more thing – it’s available in configurations for both single-stack magazines and double-stack magazines.

Buyers Guide: Blackhawk Leather Check-Six Gun Holster

My Gun Culture Shooting Buyers Guide

Blackhawk Leather Check-Six Holster

The Blackhawk Leather Check-Six Holster is versatile and comfortable

We recently did a full holster review on the Blackhawk Leather Check-Six Holster and found it to be amazingly versatile.

  • You can use it as a small of back holster
  • You can use it as a small of kidney holster
  • You can use it as a small of behind the hip holster
  • It has an open top design that’s friendly to guns with large and/or ambidextrous safeties
  • It has a positive screw retention adjustment
  • It’s exceptionally well constructed out of nice leather

Oh, and it’s as comfortable to wear as all get out. That’s good.

We’ve really gotten to like this one. It’s great for carrying a full size gun and becomes even more comfortable and concealable for smaller guns.

Highly recommended.

Galco SB3 Dress Belt / Gun Belt

Galco SB3 gun belt - dress belt

The Galco SB3 Dress Belt is another great example of a durable and purpose built gun belt. Constructed from premium saddle leather, the Galco belt looks more the part of a true dress belt than other models on the market. With a 1-1/2” width and sturdy construction, this belt does a great job of supporting even full size guns. We’ve had two – one each in black and brown – for years and they are as sturdy – and good looking – today as the day we bought them.

Holster Review: DeSantis Cozy Partner Holster

DeSantis Cozy Partner Holster

DeSantis Cozy Partner Holster

Our test model for the Cozy Partner fits a Walther PPK or Walther PP.

It’s got solid snapping belt loops and a screw adjustment for setting your preferred retention strength. This model also features a memory band that holds the holster mouth open to ease one-handed re-holstering. It’s a very stable holster as the bottom section features a near circular and very generous leather pad underneath the belt line. There is also a leather panel that covers the back portion of the gun’s slide to insulate that from your belly flab.

It’s as well made as Rosie O’Donnell’s refrigerator – and that’s saying a lot.

Holster Review: Blackhawk Leather Magazine Pouch

The Blackhawk Leather Magazine Pouch is one nifty, handy, dandy accessory. Available in single stack and double stack magazine sizes, it’s insanely adjustable like many other Blackhawk products.

Blackhawk Leather Magazine Pouch

Blackhawk Leather Magazine Pouch

The basic idea behind this model is configurability. It features a sewn-on leather belt loop which can accommodate belts up to 1 3/4 inches wide. That’s pretty standard.

Where things get interesting is how the Blackhawk Leather Magazine pouch offers a Kydex clip that can mount on the belt loop itself. With the Kydex clip option, the user can easily add and remove the magazine pouch from the belt. We found that you can even reverse the magazine pouch and mount it as an inside-the-waistband model using the clip option.

The Kydex clip can also be rotated and locked in place so you can adjust the angle of carry in 30 degrees forward or backward. Handy. To remove the Kydex belt clip and use the standard sewn-in belt loop, just rotate the clip 90 degrees and it comes right off.

The magazine pouch itself features an adjustable retention screw which lets you set the exact tension for the magazine hold. Loosen it up for competition use, tighten it a bit for active carry. We found the magazine to be exceptionally secure, yet accessible, in this piece of gear.

All in all, it’s a versatile piece of equipment. We’ve been using it daily for a spare 1911 magazine.

Buyers Guide: Blackhawk Sportster Standard Concealment Holster

My Gun Culture Shooting Buyers Guide

Blackhawk Sportster Standard Belt and Paddle Mount

The Blackhawk Sportster Standard holster includes both belt and paddle mounts

Like the Blackhawk Serpa, the Blackhawk Standard Concealment holster comes with two mounting options – a belt loop system and a paddle. Both gun holsters are insanely configurable. Cant is adjustable in two positions forward and two positions backward in addition to the default straight drop. The belt mount can be sized to fit belts from zero to 2.25 inches. So, in theory, if you wanted to mount this holster on a string, you could, although we wouldn’t recommend it…

The paddle mount option features the same cant adjustments but also allows sizing to your specific belt. Even through the paddle option does not require a belt, it has adjustable pegs that are captured by the bottom of the belt – thereby improving stability immensely. This is the most solid paddle mount system we’ve tested. If you set it up right, it doesn’t move. It’s firmly anchored into position – like Rosie O’Donnel at the Dunkin’ Donuts counter. The paddle is also very large which noticeably increases comfort by distributing the weight across a large area of your hip.

The model we evaluated was for a full size 1911 and the kydex was molded perfectly. While not necessarily required, the holster has an adjustable retention screw that allows the user to set the strength of retention to preference.

With a street price of around $20 and sometimes less, depending on your gun model, this holster is a tremendous value.

Buyers Guide: 5.11 Tactical COVRT Z.A.P. 6 (Zone Assault Pack)

My Gun Culture Shooting Buyers Guide

511 COVRT Zone Assault Pack

511 COVRT Zone Assault Pack

Backpack? Holster? Metro Bag?

How about all the above? The 5.11 Tactical COVRT Z.A.P. 6, or Zone Assault Pack makes a great holster that also serves to lug some gear. The single-strap, over-the-shoulder design allows the pack to be carried on the back, but instantly swiveled to the front. When brought forward, the dedicated holster compartment is perfectly oriented for a quick draw. The whole setup is ambidextrous (the holster pouch is accessible from either side) so it’s both lefty and righty friendly.

We’ve found it to be an excellent way to discreetly pack while riding a bike. And of course you can lug around your other important stuff. This is a truly handy design. Love it.

Holster Review: Blade-Tech IDPA Competition Pack with SRB (Sting Ray Belt) Holster

Blade-Tech IDPA Competition Pack with SRB (Sting Ray Belt) Holster

Blade-Tech IDPA Competition Pack with SRB (Sting Ray Belt) Holster

This is our favorite Kydex oustide-the-waistband holster. For concealed carry, it’s rock solid and adjustable to your belt width – anywhere form  1 1/4” to 2 1/4”.  This prevents any wobble on the belt, assuming your belt fits within the holsters’ adjustable range.

Gun retention is excellent while the draw is still silky smooth. A great fit from carefully molded kydex combined with adjustable tension screws allow you to set your preferred ease of draw, or level of tension on the gun, depending on how you want to look at it.

The SRB is insanely adjustable. Out of the box you can adjust for a vertical mount, forward cant, or reverse cant depending on your preference. The SRB is also compatible with Blade-Tech’s system that allows for optional paddle, drop, or offset belt attachments.

Oh, and if you want to try some healthy competition, the Blade-Tech SRB is IDPA legal out of the box.
