I was just reading Steve’s post on The Firearm Blog and felt compelled to make some minor improvements in the name of peace and quiet in our communities.  I think this may knock off a few more decibels…

The Right to Apply Directly to Forehead Shall Not Be Infringed

Head On - Apply Directly To Forehead

Head On - Apply Directly To Forehead

With the recent Supreme Court Heller decision, it seems a lot of people have been somewhat confused by the real meaning of that whole Second Amendment thing. As a refresher, the original text reads like this:

“A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”

Most of the confusion seems to come from people wondering what the heck a “well-regulated militia” is. That’s actually pretty easy for most folks to understand, but I’ll save it for another post to give me something else to rant about.

One of the most effective, and simplest, explanations of the Second Amendment text comes from Tom Gresham. He draws a parallel that makes a lot of sense, even to me:

“A well-educated people, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and read books shall not be infringed.”

Seems pretty simple when you put it that way, but I wonder if it resonates with our TV society today? I mean, really, who reads anymore?

So I thought I would try on a few other variations for size.

“A dust-free militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear Swiffers shall not be infringed.”

“A low-cholesterol militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to munch Cheerios shall not be infringed.”

“A migraine-free militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to apply directly to forehead shall not be infringed.”
